Aromatherapy Can Make An Impact On Your Wellness
Essential oils are what give flowers and herbs their distinct fragrance. Essential oils are thought to be 50 times more potent than the herbs from which they are derived. Aromatherapy is gentle, non-invasive, and is the only path to reach the amygdala -- the portion of the brain where emotion-based memories are kept. These fragrances also impact the hippocampus and the hypothalamus --the part of the brain that regulates the pituitary gland. This means that fragrance can directly alter hormone production and affect the autonomic nervous system which regulates digestion, heart rate, blood pressure and breathing.
There are clay pots dating 5500 BC with residue from plant essences. Essential oils were used by the Egyptians as a perfume offering to their gods. Tut’s tomb held more than 100 gallons of scented oils.
Essential oils have the highest vibrational frequency of any substance known to man and contain ozone and negative ions – disease cannot survive in the presence of these substances. Essential oils can be antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and are powerful stimulates for cellular processes. They can increase while blood cell counts, blood oxygen, and resistance to disease so that people who use them have a 65-75% faster recovery from illness. They can increase the bio-availability of nutrients, decrease airborne chemicals and can increase memory, energy and digestion.
In 17th-century Europe, perfumers and glove-makers were considered immune to the plague (Black Death) due to the scented oils with which they worked. The town of Bucklersbury, England, was spared the plague entirely because it was the center of the lavender trade.
Ways of using essential oils include inhaling with a diffuser: Add oils to distilled water in a glass spray jar to spray rooms, bed linens, towels. Combine with massage oils or unscented creams and massage into the skin. Soak in a tub with 8-15 drops of oil and Epsom salt. Certain combinations of oils can used for household disinfectants.
